Infiniti has been consciously focusing on its image as a performance and design-oriented brand in the United States in the last few years. Now the company has announced its own version of the electric Nissan Leaf Hatchback, with even better performance and styling.
When the car was first announced, Nissan CEO, Carlos Ghosn, described it as “a compact, high-performance, four-seat luxury Infiniti with zero emissions.” The Infiniti electric car will be a global model, which means that it will hit the US showrooms. Infiniti has targeted the United States as the biggest market for this car. The car will probably go on sale in the next two or three years, although no official statement has been released yet.
U.S. officials reviewed the initial designs of the new car and complained that the vehicle looked exactly like the Nissan Leaf. Infiniti’s North American sales boss, Ben Poore, said that the recent designs have corrected the earlier problem. “I was in Japan last week and saw the final three or four designs for the car,” Poore said, “And I can tell you without a doubt that we’re going to have a uniquely Infiniti product.”
“But we think it needs to be very unique, not only in exterior design but in interior materials and in terms of its driving performance. It has to accelerate like an Infiniti. It has to be an Infiniti from the standpoint of dynamic performance,” said an Infiniti official.
